The Procedure Sclerotherapy to Treat Varicose Vein
During sclerotherapy, the salt solution is injected into the veins directly with the help of a needle. During this procedure you may feel uncomfortable for one to two minutes, specially when larger veins are injected. The entire procedure takes approximately 15-30 minutes. The number of veins injected in one sitting totally depends on the size and the location of the veins. It also depends on the overall health of  the patient.Sclerotherapy is done in the doctor's office by a dermatologist or a surgeon.

What to Do Before the Procedure of Sclerotherapy

What Happens After Sclerotherapy
  • After sclerotherapy, you can drive yourself home and can continue doing your daily activities.
  • Walking is suggested.
  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or other anti-inflammatory drugs for at least 48 hours.
  • Showers are allowed, but the water make sure the water is cooler. The injection sites can be washed with mild soap and lukewarm water.
Sclerotherapy Costs
The cost of sclerotherapy is significant. It is directly related to the number of sessions the patient requires to help remove spider and varicose veins. There are times when some patients may only need one session to get rid of small veins, but most of the patients require multiple sessions, which means the sclerotherapy costs are significant. The typical price for one sclerotherapy session stands anywhere between  $200 and $500.Multiple sclerotherapy treatments can cost several thousand dollars. Moreover, if varicose or spider veins are serious enough, patients may need a yearly touch up injection to stop them from returning.
Will I need further treatment?
It is unlikely that all your varicose veins will improve after one set of injections and you may require various treatments. You will be seen again in a few weeks time and further injections can be performed at that stage. Some of the untreated veins may have shrunk at that stage.
